Artist Statement

I create child-like abstracted bodies, animals, and plants using ceramics as my primary medium. Birds occupy a special place in my work, they symbolize perseverance, patience, resilience, and the mystical majesty of nature. The insects, earthworms, gourds, coffee, corn, rope, and the clay itself are all symbols related to my childhood in Guatemala’s countryside culture, which deeply inspire my practice. My sculptures show the beauty of gentleness, an integrated balance between humans and nature, as well as a moment of harmonious cohabitation between my conscious and my subconscious mind. Most importantly, in all my designs, I seek to remember kindness is an innate part of nature, no matter how bizarre or brutal life can be.
